New Market Tax Credit

The New Market Tax Credit (NMTC) was created by the Community Renewal Tax relief Act of 2000. Intended to provide incentive for investment in communities that have had poor access to capital, the NMTC creates tax credits for equity investments in Community Development Entities (CDES). Investments are made to CDEs which are able to use those funds to finance businesses in eligible low-income areas.
